July 25, Printing with the Sun with photographic Cyanotypes, featuring local art non-profit CEPA Gallery. Supplies provided generously by CEPA. 12-15. Children under 6 accompanied by an adult. Participants will walk and gather found objects from Nature, like leafs, flowers and rocks to lay on top of a special light sensitive paper and the sun will shine through or be blocked by the objects we lay out on top of the paper. Participants will have the opportunity to make one as a learning experience and then 2 more to make an artful or more intentional print. Materials used are non-toxic. If you are interested in bringing in a few of your own transparent objects, it is welcome and encouraged!
Aug 29, Printing with Nature, Create Your Own Stationary Set, featuring local art non-profit Book Arts Center of WNY. Supplies provided by Book Arts. Children under 6 accompanied by an adult. Participants will walk and gather found objects from nature, like leaves and flowers and be taught how to print them on a set of pre-scored cards with envelopes. Participants will take home a personalized stationery set of 5 and be given an opportunity to learn while practicing on a few before the final set. Paints used are non-toxic water-based acrylic, so please come prepared with some “paint clothes” for this activity. The paint dies quickly so no need to worry about wet paint on the way home! This activity is a great way to introduce how to build a relationship like having a pen pal, and encourages the gift of giving something handmade, harboring the attribute of generosity to our young learners!
