Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 based upon experience

SUMMARY
The Director of Development is responsible for stewarding established donor relationships, cultivating new relationships, developing, and implementing engagement and strategies to enhance and grow endowments with current and prospective donors. They will supervise the Client Service Manager(s) and will serve as liaison between the Foundation and its constituent partners. Additionally, they coordinate CRM database management and reporting, event logistics, annual Impact report and donor stewardship efforts. The Director of Development will supervise volunteers (as needed), participating in the Development and Marketing Committees activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the mission, values and operating principles of The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies.

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:

  • Donor Cultivation: Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors, foundations, and corporate partners to secure endowed gifts and grants using legacy giving and charitable use vehicles. Respond to donor inquiries, provide professional assistance in executing upon the donor’s philanthropic mission, and continue to enhance the donor/Foundation relationship (via phone, computer and face-to-face).
  • Stewardship: Strengthen the donor stewardship program: acknowledge, thank, and report on the impact of contributions.  Answer donor questions through phone calls, emails, in person meetings.
  • Community Engagement: Expand the Buffalo Jewish Community’s efforts to secure endowment funds via legacy gifts for the future of our Jewish agencies and organizations.
  • Events and Outreach: Oversee execution of donor events, recognition activities, and community outreach programs to engage and retain supporters. Represent the Foundation at community events.  Assist in capital campaign management and implementation.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Team Management: Oversee and support the development team.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive Director, co-workers, Board of Trustees and Committees to align development efforts with the foundation’s strategic goals.
  • Organize: Create and manage a development training program for Jewish agencies and organizations to further their development skills.

Data Management and Analysis:

  • Database Management: Oversee the donor database to track and analyze giving patterns, manage donor information, and generate reports.
  • Performance Metrics: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of donor outreach attempts, adjusting tactics as needed to achieve goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Jewish Studies)
  • Minimum five years of nonprofit donor relations experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional understanding of philanthropy as it relates to a not-for-profit organization and a wide and deep knowledge of fundamental disciplines of development.
  • Ability to create, execute and/or support, and oversee a comprehensive donor stewardship campaign including acknowledgement and recognition plan and carefully executing cultivation events and programs for major donors.
  • Excellent verbal, written and digital communication skills that are effective with a diverse range of audiences including board members, volunteers, internal staff, donors, and all constituencies.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team; focused and goal-oriented with a high level of initiative and energy, as well as problem solving skills.
  • Strong relationships with and working knowledge of Buffalo’s Jewish Community.
  • High ethical standards and transparency in all aspects.
